We have put together a comprehensive list of award-winning and undiscovered short and feature films by Georgian filmmakers, who have been sharing their work online for free to encourage you to stay home and flatten the COVID-19 curve. The list is updated every day upon the request of the filmmakers. For the love of film, stay home, stay safe and enjoy Georgian cinema!

SHORT FILMS

Temo (2019) - Directed by Lasha Tskvitinidze (30 min.)

Temo is in debts, just like majority of Georgian population, he has lost everything and now he’s sheltered by his girlfriend who lives in a tiny shack, together with her mother. Temo tries different things to get out of the situation, but his attempts are naïve and futile, be it discovering of constant energy or farming frogs for selling on the internet. Social complications are putting more and more weight on Temo’s back, because of this Temo is forced to take a criminal way to solve his problems.

After collapse of Soviet Union in 1991 presidential and op positional forces confronted on the main avenue of the capital Tbilisi. Gia is a soldier of op positional forces during this civil war. He needs to get medicines for his ill son, meanwhile he occasionally meets a school friend, who fights for the interests of presidential forces.

The story of a man who was the guardian of the national treasure of his homeland Sakartvelo (Georgia) in France placed in 39 big boxes, he did not lose any item and brought it back in 1945 after 24 years of struggle and became a national hero.

Large, half-grown, fenced in buildings. Two security men guard the grounds and roam the mysterious terrain. The sun is burning hot and the radio messages from the head office do not stop. But what is behind the well-guarded walls?

Mama (2017) - Directed by Davit Pirtskhalava (25 min.)

Lado is nineteen when his father comes back home unexpectedly after a very long absence. The young man tries desperately to get some answers from his parent, but in vain. When his father leaves again, Lado goes back to his life of crime, together with his younger brother. He is left to answer the questions their father would not hear.

Thirteen-year-old Mariam lives with her father, Rezo, in the poor slums of Tbilisi. They share a one room shack. Mariam and Rezo are barely making a living, being forced to steal at times. Along with the struggle against poverty, Mariam also has to deal with the facts of becoming a woman and the fear that her father would betray her in order to make money.

Anna is a 45 years old woman, living alone with her mother in the center of Tbilisi. One night, Anna's life takes a different turn, when at the concert, she sees the face of a woman in the crowd.

Nine Years of Displacement (2017) - Directed by Tornike Koplatadze (24 min.)

The film examines the aftermath of the Georgian-Russian War of 2008. It takes a close look at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Settlement, and how people’s lives have changed since the war. Three teenagers explain their adjustments to IDP life, full of disadvantages and promising opportunities.

In the magic forest it is dark and cold; the fog so thick that not a single ray of sunlight shines through. The plants are withered and the lakes frozen, with nothing stirring anymore. A lone girl and a deer are wandering through this icy landscape. What are they looking for? Better Than Dog (2016) - Directed by Kote Kalandadze and Keko Chelidze (28 min.)

The story of a young Georgian musician Gia Iashvili (of the one-man band Sky Diving Penguins), whose uprising UK career was cut short due to the sudden disappearance of his producer.

A Short Film About Friends (2016) - Directed by Levan Shubashvili (13 min.)

After staying in Germany for a long time Kakha return in Tbilisi. His university friends decide to organize a reunion party. Everybody misses Kakha. Eka is the one who is looking forward to his return. Eka and Kakha had an affair at university, but she learns that he married in Germany, but his friends know nothing about it. Eka is disappointed. She is going to the party, because she misses Kakha. Everything changes, when Eka decides to reveal the secret related to their past.

Till The End of The Day (2016) - Directed by Anna Sarukhanova (15 min.)

Two sisters come to their grandfather’s house to bring him a parcel. But he is not at home and the door is unlocked. He has already been gone like this before and at that time he could not remember the way home. Two girls have to decide what to do, considering that their family members used to let down each other in troubles. In 24 hours old flat becomes the place of memories, relationship with parents and thoughts that were hidden before.

Winter Which Was Not There (2015) - Directed by Vajiko Chachkhiani (11 min.)

The film depicts a crane fishing a statue from the sea. Gradually, it becomes clear that the statue is of a man who is standing on the beach. He then ties the statue to his pick-up truck and drives off. As he travels through the Georgian landscape, the concrete disintegrates until all that remains is the chain that once fastened it to his vehicle. The film is a striking allusion of a dictator's figure, namely Joseph Stalin, who was born in Georgia and whose statues and spirit linger throughout the country.

Exodus (2015) - Directed by Vakhtang Jajanidze (15 min.)

Two middle-aged sisters quietly prepare for a major change after they spent their entire life together. Lili has a chance to leave the dead town and move to another place with her daughter, but Tatiana keeps hoping that Lili will never leave her alone.

Wake Man (2015) - Directed by Tornike Bziava (29 min.)

Rezo is a 70 year-old resident of the old people's house. He is tired of the lack of proper food at the institution, so he keeps notes from the local obituaries. He attends wakes of unknown individuals and stays for the dinner, which is the traditional feast that takes place after the funeral. At one such feast Rezo meets his former student, whom he taught Georgian dance in the 90's.

Enclosed Space (2015) - Directed by Levan Shubashvili (18 min.)

The main character of the film is 13-year-old Luka Tatishvili, who, before the flooding of 13 June 2015 volunteered at the Tbilisi zoo. Almost every day after school Luka used to visit the zoo birds and animals and take care of them. The zoo was an inevitable part of Luka’s life-a place where he could find himself away from the densely constructed blocks which form the enclosed space. The flood which happened in Tbilisi damaged the city greatly. Due to the disaster 18 people died, 3 are still missing. Tbilisi zoo, which was founded in 1927, was almost devastated.

It's All About Blood (2014) - Directed by Guram Bakradze (20 min.)

Diploma Work

Guram sold the factory and paid the bribe to get his son, who is jailed for murder, out of the prison. He believes, that Sandro will get a second chance if he leaves behind the world he was a part of and starts a new life abroad. Guram has arranged a flight to Italy for Sandro, on the day after he is released. However, on the next morning, Sandro becomes a victim of his own dark past.

18 years old boy blames himself in the death of his grandmother. He is left alone with his grandfather in an old soviet flat, totally alienated from his grandparents.

All Day Strolling (2011) - Directed by Sandro Kakabadze (29 min.)

The remote Fotskho settlement was built to accommodate construction workers one of the most ambitious Soviet project; the world's highest arch dam. Nowadays it's an isolated refugee community in the Georgian mountains, where all day strolling is the main occupation.

The adventure was almost over. And instead, on the pages of a transparent calendar, began to chase and escaping together with an unexpected like-minded person (meanwhile the husband took revenge for the last time and he himself became a victim of the red fury) and the calendar is the very place, where, there is no menace to them.

The Things (2016) - Directed by Nino Gogua (64 min.)

The film is about the only and the last things that Georgian Internally Displaced People took with them when leaving their home villages of South Ossetia, during Russian-Georgian August War, 2008. The movie captures the present relationship between the Things and their owners, revealing daily lives of refugees.

Line of Credit investigates a reality almost unknown to the western spectator, linked to the disorderly development of the Georgian society in the post-USSR; a political and social situation not dissimilar and easily detectable in many republics which were formed after 1989.

Beso is a fourteen-year-old boy growing up in a poor family in a remote Georgian village. As a way to escape the harsh reality, Beso writes rap songs and records himself on a tape recorder, dreaming that one day he will be a successful rapper. When his brother Leri suddenly runs away from home, Beso becomes the only man in the family, forcing him to step out of his childhood innocence.

A feature length documentary about Sandra Roelofs, a Dutch girl from Terneuzen, who became the First Lady of exotic but politically instable Georgia. After ten years in office her husband, the now controversial President Michael Saakashvili, cannot be re-elected. The film follows Sandra during their last year in office; looking back at the past 10 years as First Lady of Georgia Sandra speaks frank and open about her thoughts and experiences.

In the beginning, the new „family“ members seem to truly care for him. But little by little the guests turn into hostile invaders. Is it Joseph’s paranoia or in fact: a brutal invasion?
